Health, Safety and Environment Specialist (HSE Specialist)

We are looking for an experienced, energetic and driven HSE Specialist who can take ownership, under the overall guidance and supervision of the Head of Engineering and Technical Support.

The HSE specialist is the central point of contact for employees, managers, Inspectorate SZW (Sociale Zaken en Werkgelegenheid) and other (supervisory) agencies, and develops, advises and implements the HSE Policy in line with corporate objectives and laws and regulations. The HSE specialist recognizes safety risks at a high level of abstraction, takes appropriate measures to control the risks, gives convincing advice on this, and ensures the changes and/or improvements are effectively implemented. A successful HSE Specialist is able to develop and implement key safety measures, risk management strategies, and educational programs to ensure worker safety, regulatory compliance, and product integrity.

What will you do?

Your main tasks and responsibilities are:

  • Ensure company and work methods are safe and comply with laws and regulations.

  • Identify and ensure a solid risk assessment on workplace hazards and develop + implement training, safety documentation and procedures to reduce risks and increase safety.

  • Analyze the need for PPE in the workplace and implement procedures, training and maintenance/disposal of the PPE.

  • Ensure a proper procedure is in place for fire and explosion safety, including fire drills, emergency response training. (HSE Specialist is the Head of the ERO Team)

  • Supervise, conduct, investigate and analyze in the area of (near) incidents including written reports and follow up actions.

  • Ensure a proper waste management procedure is in place and is according to all applicable law.

  • Supervise and conduct internal and external audits (including RI&E and workplace

  • Inspections) and compliance training.

  • Train all employees and managers on health and safety protocols, hazardous materials, use of PPE and safety guidelines. Also organize workshops and seminars on new regulations, emerging risks and best practices.

Who You Are

Well, our ideal candidate has/is:

  • HBO (bachelor) level (or higher) in a relevant field (by degree or comparable level through work experience)

  • Current knowledge of health and safety and environmental regulations.

  • Knowledge in project management, inspections and audits.

  • Basic knowledge of chemistry.

  • Knowledge of conducting risk analyses and safety studies in the field of process safety.

  • Proactive and independent.

  • Strong verbal and written communication in English and Dutch.

  • Able to communicate at various levels.
